Can I insure my 12-year-old cat?
Yes, simpego insures animals of all ages. Please note that we can only insure animals that are at least 8 weeks old.
Do I need a birth certificate to take out insurance?
No. If you do not know the date of birth, give your best estimate. Please note that we can only insure animals that are at least 8 weeks old.
My animal takes part in tournaments at home and abroad, can I insure it?
No, it is not possible to insure animals that are used for professional shows or to earn money.
Can several animals be included in one contract?
simpego Pet insurance is taken out individually for each pet. For example, if you want to insure two cats and a dog, please take out a contract for each animal.

Is there a franchise?
Yes — The deductible is the amount you pay yourself each year. The amount you choose depends on your pet:
Dogs
- Dog up to 9 years: 0, 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000 francs per year
- Dog from 9 years: 300, 500, 1,000, 2,000 francs per year
Cats
- Cat up to 9 years: 0, 150, 300, 500, 1000 francs per year
- Cat from 9 years: 150, 300, 500, 1000 francs per year
Does simpego always cover 100% of health & accident costs?
The cost coverage is the percentage that simpego pays per vet visit once the deductible has been reached. You can choose between 80 % and 100 % of the cost coverage.
From the age of 9, 80% of the costs are always covered.
What is a waiting period?
The waiting period is the waiting period, so to speak. It refers to the period after the start of insurance during which certain benefits are not covered.
How long is the waiting period?
The waiting period for pet insurance is 30 days from the start of the insurance.
It applies to cases of illness, hereditary diseases and congenital defects.
What is the difference between a waiting period and a vesting period?
The waiting period is a waiting period directly after the start of your insurance, during which you cannot yet use some insurance benefits.
The vesting period means that we do not offer benefits for illnesses or treatments that were diagnosed or treated for the first time in the three months before the start of your insurance.
Is my pet also insured if I take it abroad?
If you are often travelling abroad with your pet, we recommend the additional “Worldwide” option so that your cat or dog is protected all over the world. Without this option, the insurance cover only applies to Switzerland.

Which dental treatments are covered?
simpego covers the costs of dental treatment that is necessary due to dental disease or accidents and prescribed by the vet. The assumption of costs depends on the insurance plan selected.
Are dental cleanings or tartar removal included in the insurance?
Yes, simpego pet insurance covers the costs of tartar removal as part of preventive treatment. The costs are covered up to the sum insured stated in the policy.
What happens if my pet is stolen?
As simpego Pet is a health and accident insurance policy, the loss or theft of a pet is not covered.
Tip: Please ask your Home contents insurance provider about “Theft away from home”.
When is there a pre-existing condition?
A pre-existing condition is when an illness or treatment has already been diagnosed or carried out before you take out your insurance.
It is important to note that no benefits are provided for illnesses that were diagnosed or treated in the three months prior to the start of insurance.
If more than 24 months have passed since the last treatment, a new treatment is considered a new illness.
Are cosmetic operations insured?
No, cosmetic operations are not insured.
My pet is seriously ill and my vet recommends that I put it to sleep. Are the costs covered?
The insurance covers the costs of euthanasia due to illness or an accident, provided the treatment is recommended by a vet. The assumption of costs depends on the sum insured selected, the excess and the assumption of costs.
My pet died suddenly. I would like to know why. Will the costs of a post-mortem be covered?
No – examinations after the death of the animal are not covered.
Can I change the insurance contract retrospectively, e.g. increase the sum insured?

Can I reduce the sum insured retrospectively?
If, for example, you would like to reduce your annual sum insured from CHF 12,000 to CHF 6,000, we will be happy to make this change for you for the next insurance year.
How long is the term of my simpego pet insurance contract?
The insurance contract is valid for one year and is extended for a further year if it is not cancelled. This happens either tacitly or simpego makes you a new offer for the next insurance year.
When do I have to report a chronic illness?
If you know that your pet suffers from chronic illnesses and has had treatment for these in the last 2 years before the start of the insurance, you must include the additional option “Pre-existing conditions” in your contract. On the other hand, the treatment costs are not covered.
My local authority requires liability insurance of at least CHF 5,000,000 to register my dog. Does simpego Pet also offer liability insurance for dog owners?
No – simpego pet insurance does not include liability cover for dog owners. If you need liability insurance, take a look at our simpego Home insurance with personal liability, which covers dog ownership. You can choose a sum insured of between CHF 3 and 10 million.
Claim
What happens to the insurance contract if my pet dies?
In the event of your pet’s death, the contract ends on the date of death.

Cancellation
What notice period applies?
You can easily terminate your contract at the end of the contract period by sending an email to service@simpego.ch or using the cancellation form.
How long is the term of my contract?
The contract is concluded for one year. If it is not cancelled, the contract is extended for a further year.
